Synopsis[]
While getting ready for school, Tomoko overhears the television fortune declare that something black will bring her luck. Tomoko equates attraction from the opposite sex as "luck," and since her fortunes never came true, she has ceased believing in them. While walking to school, she stops by to get a soda – "it's a black drink" – but it explodes on her face.
During PE, Tomoko plays with an ant hill and a bunch of the ants crawl up her leg. Afterwards, while she stands by a window lamenting her misfortune a guy passing by notices an ant on her neck and reaches for it. She becomes flustered and does not hear his explanation; she can only fixate on the fact that a random guy touched her neck.
Later during class, she scratches at her neck while she wishes she reacted better to a guy touching her. Another guy sitting next thinks he sees a bug crawling up her arm and calls her attention. Tomoko mistakenly thinks he is interested in her. After school, she takes a train home and sits next to a guy. She peeks at his text, which says “A really cute girl just sat down next to me on the train.” Again, Tomoko misreads the situation believing the text was about her when in fact it was about a different girl sitting on the other side of him. Tomoko ends up believing this is the best day of her life and to celebrate, buys another soda, shakes it up and sprays it on herself. When her brother sees her, he notices the ants crawling on her face and becomes repulsed.
